Swiss Emmental

Certainly the best known of the Swiss cheeses. Swiss Emmental is a cheese which in its entirety can weigh over 100 Kg!
With a light brown or golden rind, its pale yellow pate is smooth and tender. Its flavour is fruity and its aroma is sweet. It tends to get firmer with age. We do not sell any other Emmental but the Swiss, as its tast and texture are consistent throughout the year, which is not always the case with Emmantals from Savoie or other areas. One can recognize authentic Swiss Emmental by its label, "Switzerland emmentaler" which is stamped in red letters on the rind.

Did you know.....Emmental is named after the Emme Valley, its place of origin, and the word, "Tal", meaning valley in German. It can be traced to the Middle Ages. It is mentioned in the archives of 1542 on account of a gift given to the victims of a fire in Langelthal.
